Sunday 26th November 2006
After yesterday's soaking we woke up to more rain and low cloud which meant that the planned walk on the Shap Fells was a non-starter as John's coat was still wet. Once again we found ourselves in Fishers buying more new gear. We then decided to 'bag' the two smaller hills of Binsey and Green How on Aughertree Fell just so that I could reach the magic figure of 141 done 400 to go, a nice way to round of my years Birkett bagging total.
As we set off up Binsey the summit was out of sight and we expected to have no views at all. Upon reaching the summit it was still in cloud but for once we were in the right place at the right time and in the space of five minutes the cloud lifted and the rest of the day was spent in sunshine with a bright blue sky. Weather: Low cloud to start then clear skies with a slight breeze. Pub visited: None Ale Drunk: None |

Walk One Binsey Cottage - Binsey (140) - Binsey Cottage Distance: 1.5 miles Ascent: 180 metres Time Taken: 50 minutes
Following the wide track to Binsey's summit we didn't expect any views at all.
Approaching Binsey's summit.
Bassenthwaite Lake is the only view we have from the summit.
Then all of a sudden the cloud starts to clear.............
and within five minutes Skiddaw comes............
.............. into view. A case of excellent timing.
Binsey's summit trig and shelter.
Criffel from the summit.
The Uldale Fells across Over Water.
Dash Falls, taken whilst descending from Binsey.
The Uldale Fells now clear of cloud.
Walk Two Green How Quarry - Green How on Aughertree Fell (141) - Green How Quarry Distance: 0.5 miles Ascent: 27 metres Time Taken: 20 minutes
Looking up to Aughertree Fell's summit from the road. It's not a steep climb then.
The cairn is below the summit which is actually where John is standing.
Only the GPS reading confirmed that this is actually the summit. Only 400 left to do then.
The Uldale Fells as seen from Aughertree Fell's summit.
